Joria Productions Now at Theatre Row: Home of West Side Dance Project & City Music Schools

From Page to Stage

As the producing arm of the West Side Dance Project, Joria has been active in producing in NYC since 1986. The variety of venues Joria has produced in, include numerous evenings of concert dance and cabaret performances, as well as full-length theater, both established and original. Some of the original productions include the world premiers of “The Prisoner of Zenda” at the Willoughby Theater in NYC, an ‘environmental’ production of “Ivanhoe” at the 79th Street Boat Basin in NYC, with a cast of 35 playing a list of over 75 characters, (both co-produced with Survivor Productions). The world premier of the original musical “All That Matters” based on the lives of Richard Sears and Alvah Roebuck, in NYC and Conn. In the field of children’s theater, Joria has produced numerous original shows including Too Many Princesses, The Magic Paintbrush, The Yellow Balloon, Hip Cat, and The Time Trippers.

In 1997 Joria commissioned Eric Baum and Meg Belviso to write “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” as a venture into an area between children’s theater and adult theater. In keeping with Washington Irving’s writing, this version appeals to audiences of all ages, making it a piece for the entire family. “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” was produced at the New 42nd Street Theater in fall 2000 and at the Wings Theater in fall 2001.

The holiday 2003/2004 season saw Joria Productions combine our creative energies with the Richmond County Orchestra and Riverside Opera for a productions of La Boheme and 2 symphony concerts in which we presented several concert dance pieces. Keep an eye here and on our bulletin board for future collaborations. In the mean time, visit Riverside Opera and The Richmond County Orchestra at www.Richmondcountyorchestra.org
